One of my latest projects is creating a farming sim RPG in the game editor: RPG Maker MV. I love playing games with farming and crafting systems in my spare time, so I felt that making one was another step in experiencing the gameplay. I have always had my own ideas for a game like this ever since I played the old Harvest Moon games, Recettear, and even Animal Crossing. The theme of a small town where you take up a traditional profession (farming, merchant, crafts producer) has always appealed to me.
I have some limited experience with making games in RPG Maker, but I felt that this project is getting me more familiar with their system editors. I find that the database manager for events, items, characters, and assets is easy to use and edit. I didn't realize that this editor had so many different options for game mechanics at first, but after doing some research on YouTube and some RPG Maker forums, I have become more familiar with the basic systems. With this knowledge, I have been able to set up my first farm plot to grow different types of plants with different spawn timers. I have been using the frame count instead of actual seconds, which I have found to be a bit easier to keep track of. In the future I will be using this same method for crafting different items with other items the player can obtain.
I plan for this game to have other systems in place including a relationship system with NPCs, an RPG element with different classes, spells, items, and monsters, a crafting system to create new items, and a merchant system in order to buy/trade/sell goods. These ideas will take a lot of time to set up and I also have to account for bugs that I will create. But I have hopes for this project, it is pretty ambitious but I think if I keep my focus I can set up some fun game systems.
